OURAY
Surrounded on all sides by high mountain peaks and nestled at the narrow head of a deep valley, Ouray touts itself as the “Switzerland of America”. The whole town of Ouray is registered as a Historic District with many historical buildings and museums. Ouray has quaint shops and restaurants, a public Hot Springs Pool to soak up the incredible views and a friendly 5 mile rim trail hike around the town. Travel time to Ouray from Glenwood Springs is 3 hours. We include a 3 hour break in town before heading back.
PALISADE WINE TOURS
Western Colorado is wine country and there is no shortage of wineries in the town of Palisade, near Grand Junction. Take a responsibly driven tour and learn the wine making process at one of the wineries. Continue to 5-6 wineries and sample wines. Visit local fruit stands and finish the tour in the town of Palisade at a local hands on brewpub or distillery for a late lunch. Travel time from Glenwood Springs is just over an hour and a 4 hour tour of the wineries is included before heading back.
MAROON BELLS
Visit the most photographed area of Colorado. Our trip to the Maroon Bells Scenic Area starts early in the morning for easy access. Our tour takes you up through the gates, if applicable, and drops you off to spend a couple hours absorbing the jaw dropping beauty and splendor. Feel free to take a short hike before heading back to Glenwood Springs. There are no restaurants or vending machines. Bring a small picnic lunch and beverages. As with all of our trips, a sweater and/or jacket is a must at higher altitudes. This is a half day trip and you should expect to be gone 5 hours.
CRESTED BUTTE
Crested Butte sits at the end of Kebler Pass which offers a wonderful viewing of the largest Aspen Grove in the state of Colorado. In early fall, these Aspen Groves turn to the most amazing colors, including shimmering gold, lush greens and even brilliant reds making a phenomenal Fall Colors Tour. Enjoy a guided tour over Kebler Pass to the quaint mountain town of Crested Butte for shopping and a tour of the ski resort. See the ghost town of Gothic (once a silver mining town) where scientists study the environment of the Rockies at the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory. Pack a picnic or enjoy lunch in town. A 3 hour ride from Glenwood Springs to Crested Butte via Kebler Pass. Enjoy an additional 3 hour’s in Crested Butte before heading back. This is a full day journey and worth every mile!
LEADVILLE LOOP
Go back in time and visit the highest incorporated city in the United States at 10,152 feet! Our Leadville Loop tour begins in Glenwood Springs and takes you through a ton of Colorado Silver Mining history along it’s loop through Aspen (Ute City), Leadville and Minturn, Colorado. This tour takes you through the ghost town of Independence as it reaches the top of Independence Pass. There are many highlights on this tour including the top 2 highest peaks in Colorado. #1 Mount Elbert and #2 Mt Massive in the Collegiate Peaks Mountain Range of the Continental Divide. We stop for 2 hours in the City of Leadville which is dotted with many historical buildings, saloons and the Leadville National Mining Museum. Stop for lunch, and learn more history walking around on your own or continue viewing from the vehicle. We head back down to Minturn after passing Camp Hale where the 10th Mtn Division soldiers trained for their duty in the Italian Alps. A full day trip with a lot to see and learn!
